New SD card standard 5.0, dedicated to 4K, 8K and 360º video recording

This is the new standard that will classify suitable SD cards for recording video up to 8K resolution and 360 degrees.

In recent years we have seen, never better said, how a huge leap has been made in terms of video recording quality and also the arrival of the recording in 360 degree, either with multiple cameras or with dedicated 360 cameras that are already starting to have more affordable prices to reach the general public.

The high resolution video recording And 360 degree also requires that the recording medium can handle this large amount of data per second, so in order to meet those needs, here comes thenew protocol SD 5.0 for memory cards.

New SD cards to record 4K, 8K, 3D and 360 degree video

TheSD Association is the organization in charge of setting the SD memory card standards, was created by the giants Panasonic, SanDisk and Toshiba in the year 2000, although today it has thousands of companies that have joined and have adopted the rules they develop.

The new speed standard will be applied to SDHC, SDXC UHS-I and UHS-II cards, in which each manufacturer indicates the minimum writing speeds that it is capable of reaching and that are higher than what we have had so far.

V6, V10, V30, V60 and V90 SD memory cards

Thus, the new speed classes are classified by V6, V10, V30, V60 and V90, the number being the speed ofminimum sequential write of the card. Therefore, SD cards marked with V30 will have a write speed of at least 30MB / s, while V90 be 90MB / s.

So is the classification compared to the Speed Classes we already have:

SD Card Association indicates that the fastest classes, V60 and V90 SD cards, are the ones indicated for recording Video in 8K resolution and 360 degrees, supporting a large data flow and even multiple independent videos that will later be processed.

On the other hand, SD V6, V10 and V30 cards will be enough for those looking for a reliable medium with which to record 4K or FullHD video with high framerate.

So is the Secure Digital 5.0 Card Standard, although at the moment there are none of this type on the market, but we will not take long to see them taking into account the companies in the sector behind the Association.
